Skyzen
As of January 2025, Skyzen is in remission!
Skyzen’s journey began on June 4, 2024, during his first day of football conditioning. His mother and grandfather noticed something wasn’t right—Skyzen wasn’t running at his usual pace or catching the ball like he normally would. Knowing his potential, his mother trusted her instincts and scheduled a doctor’s appointment for June 7, 2024.
At the appointment, Skyzen’s doctor grew concerned and referred him to the ER at Kapiolani Medical Center, where an MRI revealed two tumors in his brain. Emergency surgery was performed to place an external ventricular drain (EVD) to relieve pressure and restore fluid circulation in his brain.
The tumors were causing severe complications, including disrupted fluid circulation, vision impairment, partial facial paralysis, and effects on his entire body. Further tests confirmed Skyzen was battling germinoma brain cancer, and the tumors had been developing for months.
Skyzen is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Kapiolani Medical Center and will receive radiation therapy at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. His radiation treatment began in early October 2024, following his fourth round of chemotherapy. Skyzen is also working with physical and occupational therapists as he faces a long road to recovery.
Throughout this journey, his mom, a single mother of four, has had to leave work to focus on his care and attend his numerous medical appointments. Despite these challenges, Skyzen’s resilience shines through.
As a community, we have the opportunity to stand with Skyzen and his family during this difficult time. Together, we can offer them the support they need to overcome this battle.
Let’s support Skyzen and his family.
