Meet Kaylan “Momi” Haywood

Kaylan Jean Ku’umomimakamai Haywood, nicknamed Momi Girl, was born on December 23, 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Gaylan and Michela (Kala) Haywood at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center.

At the time of her birth, she was surrounded and welcomed by her dad, her mom, and many aunties who loved her from the start.

Momi Girl attended Hawaii Tech Academy (HTA) and was in the seventh grade. She was adventurous and a thrill seeker! She loved riding roller coasters, riding her hoverboard, jumping on a pogo stick...well...until she fell off the pogo stick, busted her face and vowed to never jump on one again. Nevertheless, that didn’t keep her from taking on many other wild adventures.

She was super funny and not only a comedian like her daddy but also had his cheesy smile! She always smiled so big! She liked taking selfies, making videos, loved to sing and dance. She was an amazing slime maker! Many young kids benefited from her slime making abilities. She loved to play games, being with friends, being out of the house and on the go with her mom. Any time she was stuck at home and not with her mom, Kala, she’d be calling Kala up every 5 minutes asking her, “Are you done yet?”, “When are you coming home?”, “How long are you gonna be?” She was her mom’s rolling buddy on the road, in the air and everywhere mom went, Momi was sure to go!

Momi Girl loved sweets! She loved all kinds of sweet and sour candies, chocolate, especially dark chocolate, brownies, cotton candy, you name it, she was always down for making and eating sweets and lots of it!

Momi was also a water baby! She loved the beach or the pool and being in the water so much that one summer she broke her arm and had to get her cast changed out 4 times from getting it wet, because she refused to stay out of the water until it healed!

Momi had so many friends and never missed the opportunity to hang out with them.  She was also athletic and could play just about any sport she put her heart and mind into. She started cheerleading when she was five years old for her brother’s football team. At about eight years old she signed up for gymnastics, as she loved doing cartwheels and flips around her house or anywhere. Momi excelled in gymnastics and began competing. In November 2017, she became Vault Champion and placed second place all around. She was planning to sign up and join for volleyball. All of the things shared about Momi is just a small glimpse of how much Momi was fun, smart, and just a loving kid to be around.
